SRI LANKA ECONOMIC AND COMMERCIAL NEWS - February 2002.

The Economy
The Colombo bourse did not see any significant change until the 23 February when the peace MOU was signed by the government and the LTTE. Immediately after the signing of the MOU the market got a boost with price gains seen virtually across the boards. Foreign funds however, did not fare as enthusiastically.
The Sri Lankan government is taking steps to initiate a tripartite trade and economic pact among Sri Lanka, India and Singapore shortly. It is hoped that close relations with these countries will help Sri Lanka develop and strengthen the economy of Sri Lanka.
