IFC’s Advisory Services for Environmental and Social Sustainability department intends to fund the assignment through the Swedish trust funds SIDA: Sustainability Index Study
The last few years have seen a proliferation of initiatives to create sustainability indices in a number of emerging markets. In order to support such initiatives, the objective of this study is to formulate a set of recommendations to support private sector partners in the creation of sustainability indices in emerging markets. This would be based on a substantive market analysis and a coordinated engagement and dissemination campaign with key market partners. The market research shall provide an overview of current and planned sustainability indices in the global market, developed and emerging markets. It will be a categorization of Sustainability Indices by qualities or traits; and building upon the market analysis, the consultants will identify areas of good practice which can be distilled into a set of recommendations to increase the probability of commercial success for new sustainability indices in emerging markets. These recommendations should be tested in consultations with stakeholders. The final study will draw on both the desk research and the market consultations to provide an insight into the long-term commercial viability of sustainability indices as well as a set of recommendations. The expected time frame is April – December 2010.
IFC’s Advisory Services for Environmental and Social Sustainability department now invites eligible consultants to indicate their interest in providing their services by submitting a response to this Request for Expressions of Interest (REOI).
