With a small domestic market, many Swedish companies venture into international markets to attain sustainable growth. Companies are expected to act in accordance with internationally accepted norms and principles on e.g labour law, sustainable development and anti-corruption, to which Sweden has committed itself.
Corporate social responsibility is a relatively new topic in Kenya. Since government authorities alone are unable to combat poverty and ensure sustainable development, international organizations, local NGOs and national and international companies need to support them in their efforts.
"Swedish Long Term Commitment to Kenya" is a newly launched CSR initiative for Swedish related organizations in Kenya. The aim of the initiative is to develop a CSR framework which will constitute a platform for working with CSR through a collaborative approach between organizations. By doing so it is possible to create greater impact and visibility for Swedish CSR initiatives and bring benefits to both Swedish businesses and the Kenyan society.
