POSIDONIA 2012

The world’s largest shipping exhibitions are, SMM Hamburg, Europort Rotterdam, Posidonia Athens. Take the unique opportunity of participating in the Swedish pavilion at Posidonia 2012, together with the Swedish Embassy and the Swedish Trade Council. Greece is a major maritime nation with its shipping industry, along with tourism, being the most important sectors of the nation’s economy.

Greece has for many consecutive years been ranked first in the world for its merchant fleet. With nearly 4,000 ships and 15 percent of the world’s total moving capacity, Greek ship owners control 25 percent of the world tanker fleet.

Despite the economic turmoil, Greece remains one of the most important arenas within the international maritime industry as it is not connected to the financial conditions of the Greek state. Greece currently has more than 400 commercial shipping companies, many of which have their headquarters in Athens where most decision making takes place. Greek ship-owners were amongst the most active buyers in 2010, investing over 4.9 billion US dollars in new ships.

The international biennale exhibition Posidonia has long been established as one of the major events of the shipping industry, and provides the international community with a platform providing direct access to the entire range of shipping products and services available on the market. In 2012, over 17,300 visitors from 76 countries and 1,858 exhibitors participated at Posidonia.

Posidonia 2012 will attract the most influential personalities from the International and Greek shipping community, major companies and organization active in all sectors of the shipping industry. This year, the exhibition will take place at the new Metropolitan Expo Center close to the Athens International Airport, and will utilize Greece largest exhibition facility.
